After the Reformation, Roman Catholicism in Scotland continued in the Highlands and some western islands like Uist and Barra, and it was strengthened during the 19th century by immigration from Ireland. Other Christian denominations in Scotland embrace the Free Church of Scotland, and various different Presbyterian offshoots. In the 2011 Census, 62% of Scotland’s population said their national identification as ‘Scottish only’, 18% as ‘Scottish and British’, 8% as ‘British solely’, and 4% selected ‘different identification solely’.
